Background/Objectives: Three phase induction motors have been the workforce for several industrial, manufacturing, propulsion and transportation applications for the past several years. Energy efficient operation of induction motors is the important task in industries. The objective of the present paper is to provide energy efficient operation of induction motors using soft computing techniques. Methods/Statistical analysis: A fuzzy logic and firefly algorithm based hybrid technique is used for performance improvement of a.c.voltage controller fed three phase induction motor drives. Simulation is done by using matlab software. Findings: It is shown that the conventional search method for reaching the best efficiency point has got many drawbacks. These demerits are overcomed using the proposed softcomputing techniques. Application/ Improvements: Improvement in motor efficiency and power factor is achieved and the motor always operates in the energy efficient region. Keywords

Objectives: This paper outlines a completely automated system for drying the clothes under direct sun by eliminating the manual supervision. Methods: Such an automated system is constructed using smart sensors for monitoring humidity in the environment, a set of photo voltaic sensors and a drive system. Based on the output from the sensor a microcontroller instructs the drive system to move the cloth towards the optimal section. Findings: The simple design exhibits a reliable, fast-response in a continuous manner without manual supervision. Applications/Improvements: System can be put into operation throughout the duration of drying especially during inconsistent weather condition.

Background/Objectives: This paper focus on Coordinated Control Scheme (CCS) for solar photovoltaic system using Hybrid Resonant Boost (HRB) converter and multilevel inverter. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The Maximum power point tracking has been implemented using Modified Perturb and Observe (MPO) algorithm. MPO algorithm mitigates the output power oscillation and maintain the Photovoltaic panel at maximum operating point. Findings: The HRB converter feeds a DC power to Modified nine level inverter to maintain the quality sinusoidal output. It also reduces the level of harmonics in the output to maintain the system output within standard level. Zero Current Switching (ZCS), Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) and HRB topologies has been simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results are used to validate the function of CCS. Applications: The proposed system is implemented for off grid solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant model.
